About

I'm passionate about finding and sharing ideas that feed creativity and inspiration in this weary world. Because we're so surrounded with illusion and lies, I hope this blog will help others in their quest to get a bit closer to the truth. I'd also like to say that opinions expressed in this blog are not necessarily mine or those featured here. Oh, and if you choose to use any images/words from this site, kindly obtain permission from all relevant parties and add the necessary links and references.

Making Life Creative

Ovation TV is a pretty cool site that has entertainment for the artist in all of us. While a lot of people don't consider themselves artistic, I do think that we all have the capacity to bring creativity to any and everything we do. Anyway, If you fancy a look (my trip to the UK coming out!): http://www.ovationtv.com/pages...

It's all coming back to me...

Hi all,I 've been traveling the world and am slowly getting back to writing. I apologize for the long wait, but the good news is that I am returning with a fresh perspective of the world and how other countries/cultures see America. Everyone seems to have their eyes on us like a younger sibling and we, like the older sibling don't really take much notice. Hopefully this will change as the world continues to get smaller and as we keep reaching out to each other via the magic that is the internet. To anyone who is the least bit apprehensive about...

Interview: The Church of Stop Shopping

I'm so excited to have been able to get an interview with Rev. Billy who's Church of Stop Shopping was the subject of the documentary What Would Jesus Buy? I found it to be hilarious and deliciously subversive... (graphic courtesy of revbilly.com) Are you actually a reverend or have you taken the role of reverend for your performance art? If it's the latter, why did you choose...

The Business of Being Born

Really insightful and riveting movie done by Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein. It details the history of how home births have been pushed aside in favor of using hospitals. It is also a great source of information in terms of explaining exactly what midwives do and the importance of the role they play not just today, but historically. (graphic courtesy of Paulo Netto and The Business...

Email: Ohayo from Japan!

So I finally decided to stop waiting for the right circumstances to present itself and just do it. I'm in Kyoto! I'm getting by on ohayo (roughly good morning), kinichiwa (good afternoon), hai (yes) and arrigato (thank you). The people are very friendly for the most part and try really hard to communicate and point you in the right direction. I got lost today and couldn't...

Interview: Carline Coon - With Her Consent

In my quest to learn more about the punk music and the punk movement, I came across Caroline Coon and was intrigued with finding out her thoughts... In addition to her website, you can also view her art work at Saatchi online. As someone who has recently begun to understand the punk movement, I'd love to know from someone who was on the inside - What is punk to you? Punk cannot be understood out of context of what preceded it, the 1960's countercultural movement of hippie Peace and Love psychedelia. By 1975 the corporate conservative media was...

Interview: Project Grab Bag

Project Grab Bag is an absolutely delicious company owned by Shannon Jefferson. Her beautiful handmade dolls were the first thing that caught my eye. So few people make these softies anymore and I remember distinctly wishing as a little girl (as I got poked nightly in the face and ribs) how wonderful it would be if my favorite doll had fewer plastic parts. If you have the...

Interview: John Stauber -"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised"

Today's interview is with John Stauber of The Center for Media and Democracy. I recently caught him on The NewsHour on PBS and found his journalistic integrity refreshing. I apologize for all the links in this post, but I feel that these days, we need to be as informed as we can be and rely on our own hearts and minds to seek out the truth as opposed to sitting back passively...

PRwatch.org

I recently heard about this website via PBS. It's called PRwatch.org and is done by the people at the Center for Media and Democracy. "The Center for Media and Democracy is a non-profit, non-partisan, public interest organization that strengthens participatory democracy by investigating and exposing public relations spin and propaganda, and by promoting media literacy and...

Jill Bolte Tayor: My Stroke of Insight

I just came across this amazing talk by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a neuroanatomist who had a stroke and came to some interesting insights into not just how the brain works, but also who we really are. If this video doesn't play, the link is at T...

Vlad Studios is my new favorite place to get desktop pictures. If you're looking to spruce up your computer, this is the place to go. Vlad Gerasimov is an amazing digital artist who has chosen to share his wonderfully whimsical wallpapers with us and I am ever so grateful! (My laptop is too!) (graphic courtesy of Vla...

An open letter to Mother Earth

Dear Mother Nature, You must think human beings are ridiculous for designating specific days for different behaviors. We have Valentine's Day for showing people that we love them, Thanksgiving Day for expressing appreciation and now Earth Day for healing you. Why do we do this? Isn't everyday Mother's Day and Christmas too? I know I speak for many people when I say that...

Interview: Sharing Compassion

This interview is with Matt from the Share Compassion blog. In addition to supporting and volunteering with organizations, he also works hard through his blog to bring us stories about people who are using their lives to help others. (graphic courtesy of Sharecompassion) Whenever I hear the word philanthropy I envision the wealthy giving money to the needy. I'd appreciate...

Interview: 37 Days

Whether we acknowledge it or not, discrimination touches the life of everyone, not just minorities. As scary as it can be, it's incredibly important that we not turn away from conversations concerning this subject, but rather work to mindfully connect with people we think we don't understand. I'm so excited to have had the opportunity to speak with Patti Digh of 37days about...

Interview: Hostess With The Mostess

Today's interview is with Jennifer Sbranti of Hostess with the Mostess, an amazingly comprehensive website and blog that informs you of everything you wanted to know about entertaining, but were afraid to ask. In addition to being an entertainer and entrepreneur, Jennifer also runs Sbranti Design. I'm overjoyed that she took the time to answer a few questions for me. (graphic...

Interview: Vive la French General!

Today's interview is with Kaari Meng the owner of French General who was gracious enough to take some time out for an interview. "Finding One's Way Through The Dark"

There's little about politics that brings me comfort and joy, but I just saw the swearing in ceremony of New York's new governor David A. Paterson. I have to say how refreshing it is to hear someone in political office speak like an everyman. He also seems to be genuinely liked by his colleagues - I mean people were hugging and kissing him as opposed to the rote handshakes....

Every Day Is Day

The lovely Donna at Donna B. Miller has a wonderful blog for the digital artist in all of us. I found her via this talisman she made for Patti at 37days. It's basically a reminder to us that we should see each day as the gift it is and do our best to not complain. I love this idea and am trying to take it up. Thanks so much Donna for your contribution to making this life...

The Freeganism Movement

"Freegans are people who employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources." I just found out about this movement last week and I think it's great. The amount of food they were able to forage for was astounding. The stores that dispose of the food can't give it away because of health concerns, but the freegans manage to survive off it for the most part. I love the idea of not creating more waste. Their website has plenty of information on various groups around...

Interview: The Dream Life

I'm in love with Lorilyn's blog The Dream Life. It's so comforting and really feeds the spirit with her thoughts on letting go of fear, living on purpose and kindness to mention a few. A great place to go when you're feeling lost and out of sorts.When/how did you become aware that you came from a family of writers and artists and when/how did you come to consider yourself...

How NOT to Take Things Personally

I came across several wonderful blogs this weekend. Most had something to do with the law of attraction. While reading Christine Kane's blog, I saw this quote that I'm taking out of context for the sake of brevity: "much of what we call friendship in our culture is little more than disliking the same people and staying stuck in our own versions of the truth and requiring that our friends agree with us. Collusion is rounding up people who believe your own illusions. Stop it."The entire quote is located in the article How NOT To Take Things Personally:...

How sweet it is!

I'm not a gamer, but this is just too cute to resist! Imagine a game about chocolate... The object is to travel the world, find the best ingredients and become the best chocolatier. Of course there are competitors to beware of, but is there anything in life that ever comes effortlessly? Oh yes, getting this game! For those short of funds or freegans, you can play the trial...

Interview: jill-of-all-trades

I just spoke with Jill Bliss of Blissen, a wonderful smorgasbord of recycled items made in a collaborative effort of designers and producers. Her opinions of art and nature are both insightful and inspiring. As someone who grew up in the city and was far removed from the knowledge of where food and products come from, I'm always interested in people who have grown up with that...
